The Purpose of The Wild, Violent, & Grotesque in Literature

As an introduction to a 1960 live reading of the short story, "A Good Man is Hard to Find," Flannery O'Connor addressed the audience at Wesleyan College with an explanation as to her use of the disturbing and grotesque. This lecture would later be expanded and published as an essay entitled, "Some Aspects of the Grotesque in Southern Fiction."
